Writing for business sense

SUNNINGHILL - Resident Shirley Anthony can now proudly add the title of author to the long list of achievements in her life.

After 20 successful years of being a marketing consultant, Anthony felt as though her life was like a treadmill. “I was going from one project to the next,” she said when explaining that she wanted to find a way to impart the knowledge she had learnt to new entrepreneurs.

The idea of authoring The New Entrepreneur, A practical marketing guide for growing your business came to Anthony in March 2013, and shortly after that the motivational woman started a project that would change her life forever. “I developed a strategy, organised my chapters and interviewed 30 entrepreneurs,” she said.

Anthony said the experience she gained from the fast-moving consumer goods branding business, and managing her own consulting practice gave her the edge and knowledge that she needed to write the book.

“I wanted the book to be practical and to the point,” Anthony said. “The world today is filled with opportunities and people are redefining what it means to be an entrepreneur. There are those who have a breakthrough idea and successfully launch it. Others see a gap in the market to buy a franchise or an existing business, and some establish consulting or advisory services.

“These are the new entrepreneurs and all have in common a passion to pursue a business of their own, and have taken action to make it happen.”

The formal book launch will be held at 5.30pm for 6pm on 26 March at Café Zing, The Regent, Morningside.
