Scouts have a celebration

FOURWAYS - TO celebrate the birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts and Girl Guide Movements, the Sandton District Cubs and Scouts held their annual B-P Sunday Service.

Spokesperson for the Bryanston Scout Group, Gary Piennaar said, “This year’s event was held at Crawford Fourways School where the First Fourways, the Sandton District’s newest Cub pack, was welcomed into the Scouting family. First Fourways opened in January and already has 25 enthusiastic members.”

He added, “After a short commemoration service, Cubs and Scouts of the Bryanston, Rivertrail, Morningside, Peter Place and Fourways groups took part in a fun swimming gala. Apart from the usual relay races, there were also a number of fun events on the programme.”

This year’s event was filled with a variety of fun activities and games for Scouts of all ages including a tube race with lighted candles for the young Cubs, and the building of the tallest human pyramid for the older Scouts.

This year’s gala was closely contested with two groups ending up on equal points. The resulting swim-off saw Bryanston narrowly edging out Rivertrail to take the win.

Piennaar concluded, “In all, a very enjoyable day out for all those who participated.”
