Family day will be animal-free zone

CRAIGAVON - Following the controversy about proposed activities at the launch of its new development on 14 March, property developers Galencia has promised that the launch event will be a fun-filled family day with no live animals present.

The launch of the company’s new luxury development in Craigavon was originally scheduled for 7 March. However, community outrage at the idea of a proposed 15-minute fireworks display during the launch forced the developers to reconsider the event. Galencia then decided to host a family day with an animal theme inspired by the fact that Craigavon is a bushbaby sanctuary. Yet animal welfare groups and some Craigavon residents were unhappy about the new idea because it was mentioned that some exhibitors may use live animals.

Since then the company has instead opted for a free fun-filled family day on 14 March with no live animals included.

According to Adam Koekemoer of Galencia, the company sees the event as an opportunity to contribute to and work with the communities in which it operates. “By proving a free fun day with rides, popcorn and candy floss, jumping castles, clowns and much more, Galencia will enable visitors to take time out of their busy schedules, relax and enjoy a fun day with their families at no cost,” he said.

The family day will take place at Galencia’s development site at the end of Inchanga Road in Craigavon on 14 March from 11am to 4pm.
