Cluster commander steps down

FOURWAYS – It has been confirmed that the Honeydew Police Cluster Commander, Major General Oswald Reddy, will transfer to the George Police Cluster.

The Honeydew Police Cluster consists of Douglasdale, Diepsloot, Roodepoort, Zandspruit, Cosmo City, Randburg and Florida police stations.

The Honeydew Cluster Community Policing board chair, Advocate Jean Berdou, stated that Major General Reddy will transfer from Honeydew Police Cluster to George Police Station, Western Cape, with effect from 1 April. Brigadier Wayne Sirkot will now be welcomed as acting cluster commander in the interim.

“Brigadier Sirkot worked under Major General Reddy for several years, which included extensive stints as acting station commander whenever Major General Reddy was unavailable,” said Berdou.

“Major General Reddy will head the George Cluster, which includes Wilderness, Knysa and Plettenberg Bay among others, and certainly will be the envy of some. He is looking forward to the challenge and will be sorely missed after serving Gauteng police for the last 22 years in various capacities.”

Berdou would like to reiterate that Major General Reddy’s transfer has nothing to do with recent occurrences that took place at Douglasdale Police Station and that the application has already been in process for approval for two years running.

“The Honeydew Cluster is truly sad to lose their beloved general, but wishes him well in his new role in George,” Berdou concluded.

Honeydew Police has been contacted. Updates to follow.
