Head detective sends a message to criminals

DOUGLASDALE - There are lots of new faces at the Douglasdale Police Station including the new head of detective services, Colonel Eric Mogashu.

Mogashu said he joined the South African Police Service in 1983 and was stationed at Soshanguve Police Station in Tshwane as a student constable. In 1984, he attended classes at a police college in Hermanskraal. Once he graduated, Mogashu gained experience by working in an around the Joburg CBD, and then in 1997 he was given the job of area commissioner for detectives in the Joburg area.

In 2005, Mogashu was transferred to Randburg Police Station as the detective commander. After serving almost 10 years at Randburg Police Station, he was redeployed from Randburg to Douglasdale Police Station on 23 February this year.

Mogashu views one of the challenges of his new position as being the development of inexperienced, young detectives at the station, and advising them how to stay on the right track.

He has a passion for investigating crime and also loves being in the police because he gets to learn something new everyday. “Whatever I do in my job, I’m always sending a message to criminals that if they commit a crime they will be punished by the law,” he said.
