Sector 1 safety is a priority

DOUGLASDALE – The Sector 1 Community Policing Forum has invited residents to attend their monthly meeting at the Olivedale Library on President Fouché Road.

It will be held on 9 March, beginning at 7pm and residents are given the opportunity to raise any and all concerns regarding crime in the area in the presence of Douglasdale police, forum members and various security companies who operate within the sector.

At the last meeting in February, the pertinent issues discussed began with the crime hot spots in the area. These were identified as Blandford and Bellairs roads in Northriding and also the whole of Jukskei Park. An increase in crime has become more evident across Joburg North and all residents are urged to be more vigilant.

It was stated that while there has been no increase in robberies with aggravating circumstances, crimes of pettier natures are on the rise. According to the statistics discussed, smash and grabs have become more prevalent because cellphones are visibly held by hand while driving, or valuables are left on the passenger seat. This has occurred mainly at the off-ramp to the N1 and the bridge on William Nicol Drive.

WhatsApp groups among the different residents’ associations and security companies were also proving to be highly effective. Residents were urged to report any suspicious activity to their respective groups.

Presentations are held at every meeting where local businesses within the safety and security field are given the opportunity to showcase their various innovations and products. These businesses are encouraged to arrange their presentations for the monthly meetings with the policing forum.
