School lunches go digital

KYALAMI - Healthy eating can be difficult for pupils – and even more difficult for their parents to ensure – which is why Sandwich Baron has embarked on an amazing school lunch initiative in the Fourways area.

The franchise, that specialises in healthier fast food alternatives, has embarked on a tuck shop initiative with Reddford House Schools at their premises in Pretoria and Blue Hills.

The tuck shop initiative is all about making life easier for parents, who can simply choose meals online, either for the day, week or month, place their order and pay up front. The meal is then delivered to the child in class before break. This means the child does not need to go to school with money or stand in a queue for their food.

Selen Naidoo, who owns a Sandwich Baron franchise in Kyalami, is at the forefront of the school lunch revolution.

“For me there is nothing more important than ensuring children are fed balanced meals,” Naidoo said.

“Kids need to be fed well, and it is no use them eating healthy at home but then indulging in sugary snacks at school.”

Sally J’Arlette-Joy, founder of Sandwich Baron explained that the franchise has offered an online ordering system for the past nine years.

“We were the first food franchise to have online orders,” she said.

“With everything going digital we wanted to have the competitive edge and it has definitely changed the way we deliver our products.”

J’Arlette-Joy explained that one of the challenges that the franchise experiences with their online order system is that many brands that utilise online ordering systems, like Sandwich Baron, are dependent on various service providers for internet and, should lines go down, it impacts online orders.

J’Arlette-Joy believes the tuck shop initiative will help make parents lives easier, even financially because tuck money will be used responsibly on their children’s behalf and children won’t have the risk of handling money at school.
