Baby blesbok still finding its feet

NORSCOT- A newborn blesbok took a tumble after anxiously scurrying away from another blesbok, when it got a further fright from a visitor at the Norscot Koppies and Kingfisher Nature Reserve.

President of the Norscot Koppies and Kingfisher Nature Reserve, Mary Borkett assured locals that the baby blesbok is fine and that no injuries were sustained during its fall.

The park has been closed since December last year for maternity leave after the birth of the blesbok.

Borkett said, “We just don’t want hordes of people going through the park as the baby blesbok is still feeling skittish.”

The reserve will be opening its doors to members of the public again on 26 January. Borkett said the blesbok should have found its feet by then.

She said the incident occurred when she and a member of the community were walking through the park. “I often walk through the park and the baby blesbok knows me but it, he or she must have gotten a fright from seeing an unfamiliar person,” she said.

The sex of the blesbok is still yet to be determined by the custodians of the park as one can only tell whether it is male of female based on which hole it urinates from.
