86 new street lights for Sunninghill

SUNNINGHILL - Residents can breathe a sigh of relief as a street light project is about to kick-off in the area.

Headed by City Power, 86 new street lights will be installed in and around the area.

This was discussed in a meeting held by Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe on 13 January, with various contractors and city officials present.

According to Nandipha Xegwana of City Power, the new street lights will be installed in the following roads: Eglin , Naivasha, Leeuwkop, Simba and Kikuyu roads.

The project should take two months to complete noted Xegwana and is set to begin in the end of January.

Deppe said she will host regular meetings to ensure the project is complete on a timely and sufficient manner. She believes this will help reduce the amount of accidents in the area. However, she further stated the street lights at the corner of the Rivonia Road intersection and the proposed K60, coming up towards the Leeuwkop Prison, need to be seriously looked at. The street light project will ensure local labourers are employed and contractors will use both men and women from the area.
