Three arrested after robbing victim with toy gun

DIEPSLOOT - Three men were arrested on the morning of 9 January after robbing a man of his cellphone using a toy gun and a kitchen knife.

According to Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, head of communications for the Diepsloot police, the suspects followed the victim from Diepsloot Ext 2 to an isolated area near the Diepsloot police station where they pounced on him.

The victim ran to the police station and alerted the police. The police took the decision to prioritise locating the suspects over registering the case first which proved crucial. With assistance from the victim, the suspects were soon spotted in the area. They fled into the veld but the police chased after them and managed to arrest the three suspects. Police seized the stolen cellphone as well as a toy gun and a kitchen knife from the suspects.

The suspects, two aged 22 and the other 23, will be charged with armed robbery and will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
