Beauty and the brawn

FOURWAYS - Miss South Africa semi-finalist Chanelle Sardinha takes the meaning of beauty and brains to a whole new level.

At just 23 years-old, this Fourways lady has not only obtained her Bachelor of Dramatic Arts honours degree from the University of Witwatersrand, but also has made her mark in the modelling and pageant world.

Sardinha’s recent pageant stint was making it into the semi-finals of the 2015 Miss South Africa pageant. She said it was one of her greatest achievements and loved every aspect of the process.

Her love for the stage and spotlight began at an early age, and she has performed in stage productions like Annie, Grease and Little Shop of Horrors. Sardinha marvels in the makeup and costume world.

This love for theatre production sparked her passion for the pageant world. “I was spotted at the age of six by a ‘tuck-shop mom’ at my school, who insisted that my mom enter me into the ‘Little Miss Fourways Mall’ pageant which I won and was awarded with a one-year modelling contract. This led to me winning a number of other titles, including Miss Reach for a Dream, Miss UCPA, Miss Cameo Legs, Miss Junior RSA and Miss Sandton Model of the Year,” said Sardinha.

This beauty has Portuguese roots and hails from a close-knit family, which she says is the reason why she is so level headed and focused when it comes to both her academic and pageantry endeavours. “My family means the world to me and I thank God every day for the love and happiness they constantly show me,” she added.

When asked about her future goals and aspirations, Sardinha still has her heart set on gaining the Miss South Africa title. “I would love to be Miss South Africa because I know who I am and what my country stands for. I pride myself in being approachable, compassionate, humble and enthusiastic,” she said.

Sardinha is currently working towards a personal training certificate and wants to educate herself and others about healthy living and lifestyle. She prides herself in encouraging young girls to be motivated and steadfast in whatever they do. It is safe to say we can expect great things from her.
