Mauritius murder update

JOBURG - Authorities are still investigating any possible foul play involved in the death of 35-year-old Fourways resident Lee-Ann Palmarozza.

UPDATE:

Authorities are still investigating any possible foul play involved in the death of 35-year-old Fourways resident Lee-Ann Palmarozza.

According to News24, Peter Roberts, Palmarozza’s boyfriend and Sandton resident, has been provisionally charged in a Mauritian court for the murder of Palmarozza.

Palmarozza’s body was found floating in a resort pool on 28 December at the Anahita resort where she was staying with Roberts.

“The legal system in Mauritius differs from South Africa in that a person may be charged provisionally even though the investigation has not been concluded,” Peter Roberts’ lawyer Nicqui Galaktiou said.

Roberts is set to appear in court again this week as they intend to bring a bail application. He is currently held in police cells. At the time, Roberts told security officials that Palmarozza had disappeared after he went to take a shower at around midnight. Subsequently, a search ensued during which Palmarozza’s body was discovered. Following an an autopsy, various media reports have said that asphyxiation was the cause of death. According to the Sunday Times, a second autopsy is to be conducted before the body can be repatriated back to South Africa.
