New year, new projects for Douglasdale police

DOUGLASDALE - Brigadier Leon Kruger, station commander of the Douglasdale Police Station, promised to try his utmost to keep the Fourways community safe in the new year.

This year, the police station will welcome a new area to the Douglasdale policing precinct; the area east of the Lion Park intersection up to Heronbridge will now become part of Sector 2.

Kruger promised to look after the newest edition to the precinct. Kruger highlighted a number of projects that will be implemented this year including a know-your-neighbour campaign. He said the police station is also encouraging suburbs to form residents’ associations if one does not already exist as this will improve security and service delivery.

Kruger said this year the police would focus on the prevention of buying and selling stolen goods and would also implore parents to be more aware of drug abuse by teenagers and young adults. Kruger called on the public to refrain from employing illegal immigrants. He warned that this year the police would crack down on illegal immigrants and fine people who employ them.

In the new year Kruger encouraged residents to make a point of attending community policing forum meetings to stay informed of what is going on in the Fourways community.

“I also would like to see residents cleaning up and maintaining their neighbourhoods this year,” he said. “A clean suburb is a clear indication to criminals that there is control in the community and their crimes will not go unnoticed.”
