Woman robbed at knife point

FOURWAYS - A woman was robbed at knife point in the banking mall opposite Fourways Mall.

According to Warrant officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale police, the victim was robbed on 9 December at 1pm. He said the victim made an over-the-counter withdrawal of R17 000. As she left the bank she was followed by a suspect and robbed in the parking lot at knife point.

The suspect jumped into a white Toyota Quantum van which contained three other men and drove away. Security at the mall spotted the vehicle and fired shots, however the vehicle was not damaged and the suspects managed to get away.

Muthan said police ran the licence plates on the vehicle and traced the van to a residence in Alexandra. Douglasdale police followed the lead and arrested the driver of the vehicle in Alexandra on the afternoon of 9 December.
