Comedy Central, the Grinch that destroyed Christmas

FOURWAYS - A Comedy Central billboard has sparked an outcry in the Fourways community.

The billboard which is on Witkoppen Road between Montecasino Boulevard and the on-ramp to William Nicol Drive reads in bold white text, ‘SANTA ISN’T REAL – cheer up with Comedy Central.’

Community member Tracy Judnick said she believed the billboard was put up “in poor taste”. She noticed the billboard when her seven-year-old daughter pointed it out to her as they were driving on Witkoppen Road.

“We need to fight back,” said Judnick. She said her seven-year-old daughter had just learnt to read. Her daughter asked whether it was true that Santa was not real and she told her, “That is just a stupid board put up by stupid people.”

An outraged Judnick said she was not going to take this lying down.

@Melindaqueck tweeted about the billboard stating:

Comedy Central have yet to respond to Fourways Review‘s questions. Head of corporate communications at Multichoice Marietjie Groenewald said Comedy Central controlled their own advertising and as a result she could not comment on the billboard.
