Douglasdale police awarded

MONTECASINO - Bravery, dedication and hard work were celebrated during the Douglasdale police's annual Christmas party and awards evening.

The party was held at Billy Gee’s in Montecasino and Douglasdale police officers put away their blue uniforms for the night and opted for glitz and glamour.

Members of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum, police reservists, youth desk members and other supportive community members were also acknowledged on the night. Honeydew Cluster Commander Major General Oswald Reddy was in attendance on the night and congratulated the entire Douglasdale police force on their excellent police work.

He also mentioned Douglasdale’s police reservists who, he said, have intrepidly attended scenes on their own and have been responsible for some of the biggest busts that the station has made. Warrant Officer Devlin Phillips won the award for Best Reservist due to his dedication to the police force. Reservists are required to work for 16 hours a week yet Phillips dedicates 30 hours of his week to the Douglasdale police.

Best detective was won by Detective Constable Felix Mthimkhulu who was not in attendance, however his unrelenting desire to close cases was still acknowledged. Best member of the support staff was awarded to Elaine Schmidt, a familiar face at the station and secretary to Brigadier Leon Kruger, station commander of the Douglasdale Police Station.

The highest honour of the night was bestowed upon Constable Maq Dlodlo.

Dlodo, the sector manager for sector four, was awarded the general’s award for most dedicated police officer in the entire Honeydew Cluster.
