Mandela memoriam at Nelson Mandela Square

SANDTON – One year after the death of a world-famous icon and activist, an exhibition will be held in honour of the late Nelson Mandela.

It’s hard to believe that South Africa lost one of the most important people to shape the country almost one year ago – but the spirit of Madiba isn’t lost.

Various artists have joined forces to present an exhibition called We Love Mandela: In Memoriam at the Welz Studio, Shop L38, Nelson Mandela Square, opening on 5 December.

Christa Swart from Welz Studio said the studio can accommodate at least 150 people, so they’re expecting no less than 100 in attendance for the opening of the exhibition.

According to Swart, statistics show that last year the peak of tourism, especially American tourists, plateaued in December and they’re expecting the same kind of crowd for this exhibition.

What will be on offer for purchase are box sets containing photos of Nelson Mandela by various artists.

The Welz Studio is especially excited about Paul Wynberg’s pieces which include an historical picture of Mandela voting for the first time, and a picture of the icon as he was released from Robin Island.

There will be no entrance fee to the exhibition which will run until 11 January.
