Paulshof west gets an association

PAULSHOF - Paulshof “Wild” West Residential Association (PWW) is a new group that has been formed in order to accommodate the more localised needs of Paulshof West.

The region is made up of Ward 106 which incorporates Wroxham Road and the Rietfontein Nature Reserve. Affiliated with Paulshof Residents’ and Rates Payers’ Association (PRRA), the PWW is geared more towards setting up a means and channel of communication between the residents of Paulshof West and the municipality.

Thus far one of the issues the PWW has dealt with include the K60, which is planning to cut through the north west corner of Rietfontein Nature Reserve as well as the neglected areas around Paulshof. According to chairperson of the PWW Margo Bansda, residents living in Paulshof West have nowhere to send their grievances, and emails to government either take too long for a response or fall by the waste side. “Paulshof residents have no database for their needs,” said Bansda.

Through the PWW, “We are trying to set up an infrastructure to deal with these grievances,” she said. The Paulshof area is split into two, Ward 93 which consists predominantly of freestanding houses and Ward 106 which is made up of complexes. “We have different security issues than the other wards and need to build a community spirit, but we are still under the umbrella of the PRRA,” she said.

“We need to get community participation with regards to these issues. We are not here to solve your problems, we need you to participate,” she said. Bansda said awareness that this new association exists needs to be raised in order to help deal with these grievances.

Ward councillor Stephan Moore and chairperson of the PRRA, Shathi Govender, made a site visit to one of the neglected areas at the bottom of Wroxham Road in the Eskom servitude area. Govender said the area is a security risk. “Some kind of intervention by Eskom needs to occur, they need to improve fencing or take on the costs incurred,” he said.
