‘Lonehill is not a hijacking hotspot’

LONEHILL- The Douglasdale police have denied that a recent a attempted hijacking at a school in Lonehill may be related to another hijacking case in the suburb in August this year.

Police have warned parents to be vigilant when dropping their children off at school after the attempted hijacking at Crawford Preparatory Lonehill on 26 November.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale Police Station, said parents dropping their children off at school are an easy target for criminals, especially if they drop their children off outside the school gates as opposed to within the school grounds.

“If you feel you are are being followed rather drive to the nearest public place instead of stopping,” he said.

According to Muthan, police are following up on leads to track down the four male suspects who attempted the latest hijacking, however the number plates of the white Subaru they fled the scene in were fake.

In August this year, a BMW was hijacked on Concourse Crescent in Lonehill. The BMW was later found in Hartebeespoort with two bodies inside, burnt beyond recognition. Muthan said the recent attempted hijacking and the one from August were isolated and unrelated incidents, and denied the suggestion that Lonehill may be a hijacking hotspot.
