Biker thief strikes in Lonehill

LONEHILL - A woman was robbed of R 100 000 worth of jewellery while collecting her post at a shopping centre in Lonehill.

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the incident happened on 19 November at 10 am.

“As I drove into the shopping centre I noticed a big, black superbike at the side of the road. As I drove past, the bike followed me,” she said. The woman said the bike parked three cars away from her in the undercover parking. The woman, who had her two-year-old daughter with her, went to collect her post and was approached by the bike rider still wearing his helmut.

“He was tall and well-spoken,” she said.

“He was dressed in black leathers from head to toe and wore a black helmut.”

The woman said the suspect came up to her and held a gun to her head.

“He just kept saying ‘Your daughter is here, let’s make this easy’. And he commanded me to hand over all my rings and my necklace,” she said.

The woman said the suspect didn’t want her phone or wallet and only took her jewellery. She said after he had taken her possessions he told her to turn around, hold her daughter and count to 20 while he fled the scene on his bike.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale police, confirmed the woman opened a case of armed robbery at the Douglasdale Police Station and that the matter is under investigation.
