A greener Douglasdale

DOUGLASDALE - The Douglasdale Business Forum (DBF) had reminded the public in and around Douglasdale and Fourways that an ‘all hands on deck’ attitude will be the order of the day on 29 November.

The struggling pavement garden on the corner of Witkoppen and Douglas drives opposite the Douglasdale Police Station will undergo a transformation to discourage grime and crime.

“We call on all members of the public who are concerned about urban decay to bring their energy and, if possible, their plant and compost donations to site on 29 November, starting from 8 am,” said Susan Mottram, chairperson of the forum.

“We have limited the plant list to wild garlic, carpobrotus, dietes, and agapanthus, as well as medium-sized, purple, red, deep pink and bright orange bougainvilleas, which we will plant against the grey precast wall at that corner.”

Second-hand plants are also welcome.

Volunteers are asked to bring their own spades, brooms and other garden tools if possible.

“We are cleaning and beautifying this corner pavement because cleaner places are safer spaces. We have found that this type of project has worked well elsewhere,” she added.
