VIDEO: Robbery is easy as garage pie

FOURWAYS - A video depicting how easy it is to get robbed is doing the rounds on social media.

The video starts with a woman driving into the Caltex garage on Kingfisher Drive in a silver vehicle.

She parks in the demarcated parking in front of the garage shop, gets out of her vehicle and walks into the store. Shortly after, a red vehicle drives past the silver car, drives out of range of the CCTV camera, then returns and backs into the disabled parking space next to the silver car. A man alights from the back of the red car, walks to the shop, peers through the door and then casually walks back to the silver car. He walks around the silver car, opens the boot and removes what appears to be a bag, then gets into the back of the red car. The red car then speeds off before the driver of the silver car even gets back.

According to the date stamp on the video, the incident occurred on 13 November at about 7pm.

The Lonehill Residents’ Association posted the video with the message, “Be alert of how quickly this can happen to you! Please be aware all the time!”

Facebook users commenting on the video debated about whether the woman had actually locked her vehicle or if remote jamming had been involved.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale police had previously said remote jamming was one of the most prolific crimes in the Fourways area. He advised residents to always lock their vehicles when they stop at shopping centres or stores. Muthan said after locking their vehicles, residents should then double-check the doors and boot to ensure their remote has not been jammed.

  1. The lady in question clearly locks her car (she even turns to check). I reckon the white guy is also involved and did the “jamming”!! Plus you can’t tell me that the people on the paving saw nothing!!
