The digital age is where business is headed

KYALAMI - Hosted by Midrand Forum, monthly business networking session, Biz Mix held its latest instalment.

The networking seminar was held at Tintswalo, Waterfall in Kyalami.

What was supposed to be a two-hour networking session turned into three hours as the presentation by keynote speaker, Mike Byron included videos and illustrations that drew laughter from attendees. Byron is a revered creative director at Astral Studios. He expressed his keen interest in video marketing and supported his views with hilarious videos from around the world whereby corporate’s distinguished themselves from their competition.

“YouTube is free and it is easy to set up an account,” he said. “One who is an expert in their field can even start uploading video tutorials, such as a plumber giving advice as a means to advertise their business.”

Baron Mackenna, an attendee and Midrand-based DJ said he generally marketed himself via word of mouth. “Networking with other people, getting people closer to me is important for my brand,” he said.

“Byron mentioned that people use social networking a lot. I recently started social networking as well. I’m definitely going use that media to my advantage.”

Action coach, Roy Odegard said he definitely learned something new from Byron. “Marketing is changing, if you are not online these days, your competitors are going to blow you out of the water,” he said.

“One has to capture and keep the attention of the consumer.”

Byron concluded by saying business owners who were present should have learnt creative ways to fit their business models into the changing technological world, and make it work for them to generate more capital.
