School raises money for cancer

CHARTWELL - Maria Montessori School in Chartwell raises R6 000 for Children’s Haematology Oncology Clinics (Choc).

The school held their annual charity fun day to raise funds on 16 October. The event saw grades 00 to 7 participate in the fund raising.

The theme of the day was Disney and all boys and girls dressed up in their favourite Disney characters. An all-you-can-eat buffet full of sweets, cakes and popcorn was available for a mere R25.

The Grade 7 and 6 group had performed a dance routine, auctioned off a piece of art which they made in art class, as well as held a raffle draw. The painting done by Grade 6 and 7 pupils was auctioned at almost R3 000 according to Chris Liebenberg, the event co-ordinator.

The money raised will be announced in a special ceremony held in November, where Choc representative Lindy Geraghty will accept the gracious donation.

Liebenberg hopes to exceed the amount raised this year, at the next annual charity fun day.
