Jub Jub not guilty of murder

LEEUWKOP - Hip-hop star Jub Jub Maarohanye's prison sentence has been reduced from 25 years to eight years.

Marrohanye is currently serving his prison sentence in Leeuwkop prison. He was transferred to the facility on 3 May from Johannesburg Prison.

On 8 October it was reported that the murder convictions of Maarohanye and his co-accused, Themba Tshabalala were converted from murder to culpable homicide. The pair were found guilty on October 16 2012 of murder, attempted murder, driving under the influence of drugs and racing on a public road. The pair crashed their cars into a group of schoolboys in Soweto in March 2010. Four boys were killed in the crash, and two were left permanently brain damaged.

Both men were sentenced in December 2012 to 20 years’ imprisonment for murder, four years for attempted murder, and a year each for driving under the influence and racing on a public road.

The new prison sentence of eight years will be counted from the time they first went to prison which means Marrhomyane will now serve six years in Leeuwkop Prison.
