A go slow on Mulburton Road

BEVERLEY- Lonehill and Beverley residents are concerned about motorists that speed on Mulburton Road.

The 40km/h stretch of road was recently resurfaced due to a massive pothole issue. However, the potholes did not deter motorist from speeding on this road. According to David Foley of Beverley, “The potholes reduced the average speed on the road to at least 15kmp/h however, this did not phase some motorists.”

Foley had contacted the Johannesburg Road Agency and suggested the agency erect 40kmp/h signs on Mulbarton, Riverside, Fountain and Robert Bruce roads as the roads were very narrow. This was not done.

In frustration he managed to secure sponsors that placed pet friendly and child friendly signs along Malburton Road. “When this did not work I discussed this with Metro police officials at the Douglasdale CPF meeting and they logged a complaint regarding this issue,” said Foley.

Chief superintendent of Metro police Wayne Minnaar said they had increased their presence on Mulburton Road to deter motorists from breaking the law and driving over the designated speed limit.

Foley thanked the speed management department of Metro police for their assistance.
