A glittering ball in aid of doggies

MONTECASINO - Regarded as South Africa’s premier charity event, the annual South African Guide Dogs Association for the Blind took place on 13 September at Montecasino’s ballroom and was a spectacularly elegant red carpet affair.

Montecasino hosted the event for the eighth year running, and the casino’s beautiful facades and twinkling lights provided the backdrop to where magical memories were made. A three-course meal was enjoyed by all, along with the very best entertainment from comedic acts Goliath and Goliath, and music by DJ Darkness and DJ Mellow Yellow.

Guests were also able to meet and greet the puppies who joyfully jumped around and interacted with delighted guests, despite their red carpet attire. The multi-talented and glamorous Ashley Hayden, who is also the star of the annual SMS campaign and patron for the ball.

The SMS campaign allows the public to donate R10 to the association through a simple text message and all proceeds go towards the training programme. Hayden has been an ambassador for the association for over five years.

She began the night by welcoming guests and pleading with them to dig deep into their pockets to make generous donations.

The association is dedicated to improving the quality of life of people who are visually and physically impaired. Sponsored by MJ Event Gear, Bob Martin, Clarins, Panorama Publishers, Gideon’s Flowers and Functions and Môreson Wines, the ball was a memorable and successful event due to the sponsors

and their enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to the association.

“The money raised at the ball will contribute towards our programme designed for our puppies who will provide unconditional love and companionship to

their owners,” commented CEO of Sagda, Gail Glover. As it coast around R18 000 to train a puppy, all donations made went directly to the programme.

One of the ambassadors for the event, Miss Earth (Air) 2014, Steffani Alexander, said, “I am honoured to support the organisation, it is a great privilege as this is an amazing organisation that provides an unselfish gift to the visually impaired.”

According to Hayden, Montecasino donated a whopping R150 000 to the association, which brought the total raised for the evening to almost half a million rand.

Fun and laughter was had all around, and general manager of the casino, Glenn Joseph, promised to hold the event again and thanked the association and encouraged them to continue their good work.
