Stand-up for women empowerment

FOURWAYS - The Bear Foundation hosted a comedy evening at Indaba Hotel in Fourways to raise funds for its youth and skills development programmes.

The Bear Foundation was founded by Nomzamo Gwencsa (30) to equip young women from disadvantaged backgrounds with the skills they needed to succeed in life.

The foundation currently mentors 70 girls from various disadvantaged schools in Cosmo City and Diepsloot. Gwencsa said the main areas that the foundation focused on were education, skills transfer, personal growth, financial literacy and spiritual growth.

“Perhaps the most important realisation that an individual can make in their quest for personal growth is that there is no single formula that defines the path to personal success,” Gwencsa said. “We all have different goals and priorities, which means that different activities and attitudes will make us feel good about ourselves.”

The comedy evening featured stand-up routines by Tony de King and Tshepo Mogale. Guests were welcomed to the venue by 10-minute massages by Mowana spa, and delicious snacks and drinks were on sale. The evening was a success, not just in getting laughs from the guests, but also in raising funds to help the young women of South Africa.
