Beer-lover takes his passion on tour

DOUGLASDALE - Businessman, Tinashe Mupanomunda (27) has taken his love of beer to the next level with the Mega Beer Tour.

The tour takes guests on the ride of a lifetime on an open top double decker party bus. Starting at Fourways Mall the tour proceeds to Black Horse Brewery and Restaurant in Magaliesburg, Chameleon Village Brewery in Hartbeespoort and Brewhogs in Kyalami before making its way back to Fourways. The tour is a true celebration of beer with drinks on the bus as well as draughts at every brewery. “On an average tour we carry about 150 to 200 litres of beer on the bus,” Mupanomunda said.

He explained that the idea came to him after a discussion with his good friend, Brendan Watcham, founder of Copperlake Breweries. “Over a beer one Friday night we decided to combine our resources since I had a party bus business and Brendan had a brewery, to do a brewery tour,” Mupanomunda said. The duo approached the Warthogs Home Brewers Association which were very happy with the idea and in February 2012 Mupanomunda conducted his first beer tour.

He said the tour offered a way for people to visit breweries that were far outside of Johannesburg, while taking full advantage of all the beers on offer without risking drinking and driving. The tour also offers a ‘take you home’ service which drops guests off at their homes or wherever they want to go after the tour. Mupanomunda said while the tour was a fun experience, it was also interesting for guests who wanted to know more about beer. “South Africans drink so much beer, but actually know so little about what goes into making beer.

“The tour gives people an opportunity to learn about beer.”

The next Mega Beer Tour will take place on 6 September.
