10 Plus meeting held

KYALAMI – WARD 93 Councillor Annette Deppe hosted the August 10 Plus meeting on 27 August.

The meeting was organised by council official Jeanney Portia Makape to address key problems and issues in the ward.

Ward 93 consists of Sunninghill, Kyalami, Kyalami Glen, Waterfall City, Leeuwkop Prison, Barbeque Downs, Paulshof and Kyalami Office Park’s wetlands.

Officials from all service delivery providers and some residents’ associations attended the meeting. Deppe added the 10 Plus meetings were held to develop relationships and connections within the service industry.

The agenda saw crucial matters being discussed, namely potholes located in Sunninghill and Barbeque Downs. According to Bayanda Dyani, regional manager of the Johannesburg Roads Agency, potholes located on Main and Nanyuki roads will be re-surfaced in the next month. Additionally, potholes along Tana, Malindi and Witkoppen roads will be soon addressed, according to the agency.

The contentious issue of large construction vehicles that use Malindi Road as a thoroughfare were discussed. According to Deppe and chairperson of Barbeque Downs Community, Candice James, the agency needs to put up a three-ton limit warning for the road and encourage road users outside of the area to travel on the K60.

Issues surrounding illegal food vendors on Witkoppen Road, specifically on the corner of Umhlanga Road, were addressed with Sandton police. According to Deppe the police need to be more visible in the area and issue fines to illegal vendors.

The Sunninghill Taxi Rank clean-up was discussed, and manager of Sunninghill Community, Rob Kimmings and his team would conduct a clean-up on 28 August in association with JPC Engineering volunteers, DRA Group and the council.

Deppe stressed that in order to tackle problems in the area, officials need to communicate and discuss ways forward on a neutral platform to improve the area and find ways to prevent difficulties from reoccurring.
