Makro hearing dates set

MAGALIESSIG - The Magaliessig Action Forum has received confirmation that Makro will be appealing the City of Joburg decision to refuse their application to build a superstore in Magaliessig.

In August last year, the City of Joburg Mayoral Committee refused Makro’s application to establish a township for the purpose of developing a superstore at the corner of Merrow Lane and Witkoppen Road in Magaliessig.

Commenting on the application being overruled in August (Makro application overruled, week ending 30 August), ward councillor for Ward 106, Stephen Moore said although residents could celebrate, it was not the end as Makro had the right to appeal the ruling. According to the forum they received notification through their legal representative of the Makro appeal hearing dates. The appeal is set for 17, 18 and 19 September, but the venue has not yet been announced.

To represent those who wish to continue to oppose the development of a Makro in Magaliessig, the forum needs funds and volunteers. The forum urged those who live and work in Magaliessig or any of the surrounding suburbs to get involved.
