Police station receives some love

DOUGLASDALE - Douglasdale Police Station received some much-needed refurbishment.

Members of the Douglasdale Community Police Forum, and staff of the station and security gate company, Paul’s Gates, worked together to refurbish the station’s parking area.

The parking area adjacent to the station had been vacant and neglected for many years. Graham Salvado of Paul’s Gates said, “The lot was vacant and unpaved with no fencing. The community had no place to park when visiting the station.”

The station’s Colonel Tinus Swart said the project allowed members of the community to give back to the policemen and women who unselfishly protected them.

By providing fencing and a safe place to park, it allowed the station to continue providing its services, said Swart.

The day was filled with braais and jovial banter between the police and members of the community.

Salvado’s team replaced broken fences, put up signs, fixed some of the non-working electric motors and even challenged Swart to assist with the drilling.

According to Swart the initiative had secured the commitment which the forum had with the station and the community, and they would continue building this relationship.

Salvado added that he and his team would maintain the parking space for many years to come.
