Fourways High celebrate pageant

FOURWAYS - Fourways High School held its annual Mr and Mrs Fourways pageant with junior and senior pupils participating in the event.

The senior contestants were Grade 10 and Grade 11 pupils and the junior group were grades 8 and 9. The pageant consisted of a group performance with both boy and girl participants, an individual walk and ending with a couples’ walk.

Sarie Roux the event co-ordinator highlighted that it was the most anticipated and exciting event on the school’s calendar. Pupils, educators and parents were invited to attend the event. Filled with ravishing evening gowns and dashing suites for the boys, the atmosphere backstage was electrified with anticipation.

The contestants before the event began were egged on, as their fellow classmates shouted and cheered in the school’s hall, although some were nervous. Roux had assisted some contestants with their make-up and getting dressed.

Some had their ‘momagers’ backstage joked Andisiwe Mazibuko (16), a senior contestant.

Fellow competitor, Callan Gibbon (16) who is an avid dancer and performer said, “I am looking forward to the dancing segment of the pageant, I have worked really hard over these few weeks.”

The boys had been just as excited and were anxious to start the show. Dressed in lime green T-shirts the boys practised their dance routine before the show started. Thomas Steenkamp (17) said, “I am excited about the formal attire segment and nervous about dancing in front of so many people.”

The night ended with the crowning of Mr and Mrs Fourways and celebrated the victory of being Fourways High School’s praised representatives. The event was deemed a success and left the audience wanting more. Next year a new Mr and Mrs Fourways will be chosen.
