Puppy love abounds at Ark Animal Centre

CHARTWELL - Puppy rescue centre Ark Animal Centre, was given a helping paw and some tender loving care from the learners pupils at Cedarwood College.

The college’s Interact Club, which aims to improve lives through collections and fundraising events, selected Ark Animal Centre as the focus of its latest charitable efforts.

Pupils visited the centre bearing gifts of dog food and toys. With an original twist, the pupils also donated a Love Jar filled with coins collected over the past few months and decorated with a note.

“The jar I thought was just such a cute idea… I thought it was very sweet of them, and rather unique too,” said Candice Eilertsen of Ark Animal Centre.

The focus of this visit was for pupils to spend time with the animals, and to learn the importance of the Adopt Don’t Shop campaign, which seeks to provide loving homes for animals in shelters. With a wonderful time being had by all, including the puppies, it seems all that was needed was a little puppy love for the message to sink in.

Education and awareness campaigns are an important part of Ark Animal Centre’s community efforts, and Cedarwood College was just one of the organisations to visit the centre recently. St Theresa’s School and Nedbank both visited to lend a helping hand, and volunteers from the centre were invited to Dainfern College to give an educational talk to the learners.

The centre, which provides a haven for puppies and pregnant moms, is run entirely by volunteers, and extra hands are always welcome.
