Van de Linde and Rast to compete at GT Masters finals

DAINFERN - Racing driver and matric pupil at Dainfern College Kelvin van der Linde, and his German team-mate René Rast scored their 10th top 10 finish in 10 races.

Their most recent top 10 finish came at the fifth round of the ADAC GT Masters championship for GT3 in the Slovak Republic on 10 August.

Van der Linde (18) is the youngest reigning European Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup champion and is rated as South Africa’s most promising racing driver.

On 9 August in the qualifying rounds, Van der Linde and Rast (27) raced around the 592km circuit in Brayislava and qualified in sixth place thus gaining them entry into the championship.

Van de Linde said, “It was clear from practice and qualifying that the circuit layout and characteristics favoured us less than some of our rivals.”

On 10 August the pair placed 10th in the second leg of the race.

“It was a very tough race today,” said Van de Linde. “The speed just wasn’t there for us and René got an unfortunate drive through penalty for posting a personal best sector time under yellow.”

The next round of the championship is at the Nürburgring in Germany on 30 and 31 August.
