For the good of the babies

LONEHILL - City Life Church and Idols star Khaya Mthethwa benefit the babies of El Roi with a sensational concert.

The concert, held on 1 August, raised a whopping R30 000 for El Roi baby home, which does not receive any government funding and is dependent on donations from causes like this.

The home, which opened in October 2012, seeks to provide safety and new homes for some of the 200 babies abandoned on average every month in Gauteng. In an attempt to prevent women from abandoning their babies in dangerous or hidden places where their lives often end before they are found, El Roi has even installed a ‘baby safe’ in its palisade fence to allow mothers to leave their babies secretly and safely.

El Roi accommodates 12 babies, which between them use 2 500 nappies per month, and the constant demand for food and other items makes donations extremely welcome. In its short existence, the home has already made a difference in the lives of 21 babies, and nine have found new adoptive families.

“It is a great honour and privilege for City Life Church to raise funds and support this awesome cause,” said organiser Antionette Reinecke.

“We believe that every life matters to God and our [desire] is to reach out beyond our four walls and make a difference in our community.”
