Vehicle-related crime prevalent in Fourways area

FOURWAYS - A police survey has revealed that vehicle-related crime and house robberies are current trends in the Fourways area.

A summary issued by Sandton Police Station, which is responsible for the enforcement of law and order in several Fourways suburbs, cited vehicle-related crime as the most common crime committed in sectors 1 and 2 in the week preceding 7 August. These sectors cover the suburbs of Sunninghill, Lonehill, Rietfontein and Paulshof. According to the report, most crimes occurred in the afternoon and evening.

Captain Kym Cloete, of Sandton police, warned residents to be aware, and to take responsibility for their safety and their possessions.

To avoid house burglaries and robberies, Cloete advised community members to be alert and ensure that they were not being followed when entering the house.

As faulty security is often associated with robberies and burglaries, residents are warned to check their alarm systems regularly, lock doors and outside gates, and ensure that electric fences are switched on at all times.

Investigations are ongoing in relation to several house robbery incidents which took place in the Sandton area.

Police were also able to report several successes in the same week, including one arrest for murder, two for business robbery, and one for house-breaking.
