Dainfern digs deep for Woodrock

DAINFERN VALLEY - The Dainfern Valley Homeowners Association hosted a fundraising day in support of Woodrock Animal Rescue.

Woodrock is a non-profit animal shelter situated in the Hennops River Valley, just North of Diepsloot. The shelter houses 150 dogs, cats and donkeys. The idea for the fundraiser was that of Dainfern estate manager, Judy Veale and Royal Canin’s Tarryn Day, both renowned animal activists. “Woodrock was delighted and honoured to be the chosen charity by such a marvellous residential estate with such wonderful ideals and community conviviality,” said Stella Meldau, co-founder of Woodrock.

The fundraising event turned into a festive occasion with a bounty of delicious hotdogs and cold drinks provided by the homeowners’ association, while Day lined the road leading up to the entrance of the estate with bags of pet food. Dainfern Valley residents pulled over to interact with the animals especially with Woodrock’s newly acquired mascot, Miley the pig. Debbie Kegal of the Randburg SPCA and Douglasdale animal activist, Irene Mackenzie also dropped by to support the initiative. “We wish to thank each and every person who opened their hearts to this cause and to the organisers and volunteers for making the day such a phenomenal success,” Meldau said.
