Beware of dealership scam in Fourways

FOURWAYS - The Douglasdale police have warned residents of a possible car dealership scam taking place in the Fourways area.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police said a Fourways resident took his vehicle to a local dealership to be sold.

Outside the dealership the vehicle owner met a man who said he worked at the dealership and that he would drive the car in and contact the vehicle owner with the necessary details later.

The vehicle owner handed over the keys to the vehicle, swapped contact details with the man and left the premises. Later on the vehicle owner tried to contact the man who he had handed his car over to, but his calls went unanswered.

Alarmed, the vehicle owner contacted the police who upon investigation found that the man was not in fact an employee at the car dealership.

Warrant Officer Muthan said residents should be very wary when taking their vehicles to car dealerships to be sold.
