MEC speaks to Fourways motorists

FOURWAYS - Some Fourways community members were stopped by MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi while travelling along William Nicol Drive in Fourways on 15 July.

Vadi engaged with motorists on the section of William Nicol Drive between the Leaping Frog Shopping Centre and Steyn City which is currently being upgraded to three lanes with a 2.5m cycle line on each side of the road.

This forms the first phase of the William Nicol Drive upgrade. Although this phase was supposed to be completed by the beginning of the year, Vadi explained underground infrastructure in the area posed a challenge to the upgrade.

He said the new date for the completed upgrade was November. Vadi thanked residents for their patience.

Vadi clarified that Steyn City contributed a third of the budget to the road upgrade and the roads and transport department contributed the rest. He said more partnerships between corporations and the city were needed in order to reduce the financial burden on the government.

Vadi first addressed community members about the road upgrade at Dainfern Country Club before heading on to the road to speak to motorists about the upgrade.
