Shelter needs urgent help

DIEPSLOOT - FourPaws animal shelter outside Diepsloot has made an urgent plea to the public for financial support in order to pay vet bills.

The shelter conducts regular inspections in underprivileged areas in and around Johannesburg to find neglected, abused or sick animals. As far as possible the shelter tries to provide impoverished pet owners with veterinary support and food so that pets and pet owners can stay together. However, in extreme cases of neglect or abuse animals are confiscated by inspectors and housed at the shelter until they can be re-homed. The shelter often finds animals who have been knocked over by cars, involved in fights with other animals or are suffering from canine or feline illnesses. Merinda Brits explained that these animals are then taken to nearby vets for treatment. However the bills add up and the shelter currently has outstanding vet bills to the amount of R37 700.

Brits said that if they cannot pay these bills the shelter will be unable to continue its work.

The shelter is pleading with the community for monetary donations.

Another way to help the shelter is to donate old books, household appliances, office items and garden tools to the shelter.

The community can also SMS 4PAWS to 38111 to donate R10.
