Voting time is nearly here

JOBURG - Ward 112 residents are reminded of the by-election scheduled to take place on 2 July.

Two candidates from two parties are in the running, namely ANC candidate Leverne Young and DA candidate Candice James.

The by-election comes after Young, who was the elected Ward 112 councillor for the DA crossed the political floor to join the ANC. She is now standing for the ANC with the belief that a better budget will offer better service delivery to residents.

James has served on Ward 93 committee and is chairperson of Barbeque Downs Residents’ Association. She believes her contacts with Region A will ensure that she can help deliver services in Ward 112.

Both candidates have been campaigning throughout the ward and speaking to residents on their issues.

Part of James’ campaign is identifying the needs in the ward and has welcomed the allocation of a budget to Ward 112 to ensure service delivery takes place.

“From my discussions with residents it has become apparent that what is now needed are facilities such as a recreation centre, library and a further clinic. These are the responsibility of local government, and I will use my excellent relationships with Region A managers that I have built over the years to see that we get ahead of the game,” said James.

Young puts forward her experience in ward management and that she lives in and is affected by what happens in the ward. “I am the only candidate that has ward management experience and in the opinion of many city officials and service providers, Ward 112 is one of the better managed wards in the City of Johannesburg.”

She believes she will be allocated a bigger budget to deliver services in the ward as an ANC candidate.

Voting stations will be set up at the Swiss Club in Vorna Valley, Halfway House Primary School, Cluny Farm in Sun Valley, Fly Fishing Adventures in Carlswald, Midrand High School, Scorpion College and St George Complex.
