Water goes to waste at Waterford Estate

WATERFALL- A water leak from an unknown source is damaging a resident's property in Waterford Estate.

The water is flowing down Carrarra Lane and into the bottom of a resident's garden. It is damaging the boundary wall and security fence as it flows down into the Klein Jukskei River.

Waterford Estate manager, Irene du Plessis told Fourways Review that the water had been flowing for 10 weeks. According to Du Plessis, Joburg Water had made no attempt to respond to their emails about the probable burst pipe. She said all possible sources of the leak had been ruled out and they were unsure of how to go forward with fixing the problem.

Robbie Taylor of Taylormade Fire Services said his company undertook the annual service of all existing fire equipment at Waterford Estate on 5 June.

“Everything was found to be in order and the quantity is also adequate as per SANS 10400T standards,” said Taylor.

Du Plessis added, “Joburg Water has been here several times and has still not managed to resolve this matter. We have serviced our underground fire hydrant and have had two private plumbers out at our cost, to see if the water is from the resident’s side of the water meters.”

She said the estate’s palisade fence was also being washed away and was becoming a security risk to their residents. Du Plessis wanted to know who would get billed for all the wasted water and was concerned the water might damage the Telkom cables as they ran alongside the water pipes.

Spokesperson for Joburg Water, Millicent Kabwe was aware of the leak and was still in the process of concluding who was responsible for it. “It seems that the water is coming through a Telkom sleeve,” she said. “Once we are completed with the investigation we will advise. We have a team working on this query.”
