Renowned for its ability to connect people from anywhere in the world, Facebook has revolutionised the way people socialise online.

The social network giant, arguably the most popular one of this decade, has many merits and according to social media expert Sean Petersen, negatives associated with it.

Petersen said Facebook also had a dangerous element to it, mainly because people end up divulging too much with virtual strangers.

“Facebook is a double-edged sword and can destroy reputations with one simple status or comment so people need to be aware when using it,” he said.

And indeed, it would seem that Facebook can have information that is deemed a tad too personal. Buzzfeed, an entertainment website, recently compiled a list of personal information the social network knows about you, if you let it. Here are the top 25 things taken from the list:

1.Your full name.

2. Your birthday.

3.Your religious views.

4. Your political views.

5. Languages you speak.

6. Your screen name and nickname.

7. Your cell phone number.

8. Your favourite quotations.

9. Access to all the contacts inside your personal email account.

10. Your picture, personal photo albums.

11. Your high school.

12. What year you graduated from high school.
