The iconic musical takes place in 1960s Baltimore, and follows overweight teenager Tracy Turnblad as she navigates school, a segregated society and her obsession with the Corny Collins show. The musical touches on issues of self-love, individuality and racism through the use of song and dance.
The production was staged with utter professionalism and a keen eye for detail. Head of Department for Arts and Culture, Mark Guthrie who was the director and producer of the production, transformed the Fourways High School hall into a Baltimore street, a cosy Baltimore apartment and a TV studio to bring the musical to life.
All the pupils in the show were extremely talented and showed a real passion for musical theatre.
