Association strives to unite Paulshof

PAULSHOF - Important issues regarding the suburb of Paulshof were discussed at the Paulshof Residents and Ratepayers Association meeting at Cambridge Crossing shopping centre.

The association has a newly-elected committee which is striving to make Paulshof a safe, happy and united suburb to live in.

The meeting started with an address by Ward 93 councillor, Annette Deppe whose ward covers most of the Paulshof area. She advised the committee to familiarise themselves with City of Joburg and government documents pertaining to new developments in the area, as this will allow them to inform the community beforehand should there be any objections.

A contentious issue in the suburb has been the proposed building of a government archive centre in Paulshof central, and Deppe advised the committee to make sure they had received all residents’ objections before the public meeting to be held on 12 June.

She also touched on issues such as the Witkoppen taxi rank which has been approved for a R900 000 upgrade, and the upgrade of Witkoppen Road which Deppe clarified was a maintenance project not a resurfacing of the actual road.

Deppe said it was important for a residents’ and ratepayers’ association to grow and be sustainable, as it helped ward councillors make a difference in suburbs by working with existing structures to address residents’ concerns and service delivery issues.

The Paulshof association is committed to maintaining the aesthetic of the suburb, which is fondly referred to as ‘the garden village of the north’, as well as safety and security in the area.

Chairperson, Shathi Govender said the committee was also trying to unite Paulshof via community activities and outreach programmes. He encouraged residents to join the association as it provided a useful tool to connect individual residents to the rest of their community, and allowed residents to voice their concerns.
