Giving thanks to second mothers

Chairperson of the association, Shathi Govender and his wife Shireen invited their domestic worker and her fellow domestic workers to a lunch, in appreciation of the work they do in households across the suburb where they are practically second mothers to the families they work for.

“We owe it to them [domestic workers] just to remind them on a specific occasion how much we appreciate the role they play in our children’s lives and the general family,” Shireen said.

As chairperson of the association, Shathi said he would love nothing more than to see this effort repeated on a bigger scale next year with the whole Paulshof community joining in to give thanks to their domestics.
