Eco-school celebrates Earth Day

BROADACRES - UNITY College in Broadacres celebrated Earth Day on 22 April.

Unity, which is a special needs school for pupils with delayed scholastic abilities, got involved with the awareness day because they pride themselves on being an eco-school.

Every year on April 22, over a billion people in 190 countries take action for Earth Day. People all over the world plant trees, clean up their communities, contact their elected officials, and more – all on behalf of the environment.

The theme for Earth Day this year was Green Cities, so some of the pupils at Unity created posters depicting growth from the earth and the green Johannesburg skyline. Other classes had been learning about recycling and decided to make a recycling logo for the school’s Eco-Wall.
