The Oscar trial day 20: Top five things you need to know

Pistorius in the witness stand again, here is a recap of today's events.

  1. As Oscar Pistorius took the stand for his second day of cross-examination, state prosecutor Gerrie Nel remained unrelenting in his questioning. Here’s your round-up of today’s court proceedings:
  2. This morning, Nel argued that Pistorius was negligent with his firearms. He referred to instances when Pistorius had left his loaded gun unattended in public.
  3. Pistorius later disputed state witnesses Darren Fresco and Samantha Taylor’s versions of events when the gun went off at Tashas and when Taylor claimed she accompanied Pistorius to collect a firearm. He claimed that the pair had lied during their testimonies. Referring to the Tasha’s incident, he also claimed that he never pulled the trigger, it just went off on its own.
  4. Referring to Pistorius’ relationship with Reeva Steenkamp, Nel noted that Pistorius constantly made reference to “me” and “I”, arguing that the relationship was about Pistorius. Nel referred to Steenkamp telling Pistorius that she loved him for the first time via WhatsApp, but he did not say it back. Nel asked if it was not important to address what Steenkamp had said, accusing Pistorius of not caring. He also added that Pistorius never owned up to anything.
  5. Nel addressed discrepancies between Pistorius’ memory of the crime scene and the crime scene photographs. Pistorius maintained that several items in the bedroom, including the fans that were in question, were moved. Pistorius insisted that he did not see Reeva Steenkamp get out of bed moments before he shot her dead. “I don’t know how she got up out of bed,” Pistorius told the High Court in Pretoria.

Proceedings will commence at 9:30am tomorrow.
