DA launches controversial election ad

JOBURG - A controversial new electioneering advert by the DA is quickly sparking online interest.

The official opposition party’s advert titled ANC Ayisafani, which loosely translated means the ANC is not what it used to be, has been viewed 28 748 times since it was published on 8 April.

The advert shows the DA’s Gauteng premier candidate, Mmusi Maimane standing in front of a mirror discussing the state of South Africa.

Maimane says, “There have been some great leaders. Leaders that have taken this country forward, noting that life today is better than it was 20 years ago.

However, he adds, “But since 2008 we’ve seen President Jacob Zuma’s ANC, an ANC that is corrupt, an ANC for the connected few. It’s an ANC that is taking us backwards.”

He further refers to topical issues such as the Nkandla scandal and police brutality and unemployment.

The advert concludes: “Vote DA. Together for change. Together for jobs.”

The advert spurred a significant public response with people supporting and disagreeing with the DA’s sentiments.

A string of comments responding to the advert were posted on Youtube.

Jolene John commented, “I love this and it’s so true but you get fools still voting ANC.”

Phillip J Fry said, “No political party is perfect. But damn this guy [Maimane] and the DA will turn things for the better. All I say is put them to the test. If they perform and you the citizen benefit then great! If they don’t you know what to do. Ayisafani!”.

Lerato Moleko said, “I think we as black South Africans should fight to have a better and more efficient ANC…. We should be able to challenge them to allow us to choose who we want to lead the country, and not leave it to a minority who want unreasonable benefit, lest we buy into the nonsense published in this ad.”
